About Me
I'm Katelyn Powell (previously Holm), a business owner, dog-lover, marketer, and lifelong learner.
How’d I get here?
5 years into my nonprofit career, my meager marketing salary could no longer support rent in downtown Houston.
I had been shooting weddings and portraits on the side to make some extra cash, and I officially started Sonder Photo Co. in 2018 in addition to my day job to make ends meet. (And travel. I saved up to galavant all over Europe later that year.)
After meeting my husband Jacob on Bumble (dating apps CAN work!) in 2019, we quickly got hitched—when you know, you know. And while we honeymooned in Portugal in early 2020, the US closed its borders due to Covid. When we returned home, most of my photography work came to a stop. And working remotely made me realize I needed a new professional adventure.
In 2021, I took a job driving product marketing strategy for a scrappy tech company, and I scaled back my side-gig to focus on becoming the best marketer I could.
I still shoot portraits and occasional weddings to keep the creative juices flowing, but I’m fully invested in my marketing career. I’m currently completing a mini-MBA program to improve my holistic business knowledge and financial literacy.
When I’m not capturing life moments or behind a computer screen, I’m working on making my first house a home in the Woodlands, Texas, expanding my book collection, and hiking with my doggos.
